Travel Safety - Smartraveller

About :: AFTA online

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) maintains Travel Advisories for more than 160 destinations that are frequently visited by Australians.

DFAT’s travel advice provides accurate, up to date information about the risks Australians might face overseas, enabling you to make well-informed decisions about whether, when and where to travel.

DFAT’s travel advisories are just that: advice. They are not warnings. In addition to information about security, they provide useful, practical tips on travelling such as health, visa and local laws information.

DFAT does not and cannot make decisions for you about whether, when or where you should travel. Its travel advisories aim to help you make your own well-informed travel decisions. Its advice is not mandatory.

Travel Advisories

The Smartraveller website www.smartraveller.gov.au has an alphabetical listing of countries with Travel Advisories. You can also register to receive updates when these Advisories change.

If you are traveling to a country where there is not a Travel Advisory available, there is also a General Advisory for Australian travelers which may help you in planning your trip.

Smartraveller also has links to Travel Bulletins which provide the latest information on event or issue specific matters.
